ABOUT MY CLASSES

There are many styles of yoga to choose from, all of which concentrate on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha yoga uses physical postures, breathing and meditation techniques, with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind.

Opposing forces of energy (up/down, in/out, tension/release, calm/energy) are always present in our lives. During my classes I spend a lot of time focusing on those opposing forces through movement and concentration on alignment and breath. The poses that I offer are both gently challenging and accessible to most bodies. Modifications are always offered to ensure that both your physical needs are met and that you do not run the risk of injury.

With this style as a guide, combined with the limited number of students, I am able to teach to all levels. Students are encouraged to move and breathe (laugh a little too) at their own pace. As the class comes to an end, we come together with a final meditation and/or a few words of inspirational wisdom. My goal is to have everyone leave class feeling nourished, grateful and more relaxed.

Practicing this style yoga on a regular basis can help facilitate an overall improvement to your well-being. The goal being that the practice starts to transcend from the mat into your daily routine, your relationships and your habits. In addition to feeling great when you walk out, you may find that life qualities such as focus, humility, gentleness, calmness and patience begin to improve.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Honestly, it took me a while to really get into a yoga practice and originally I thought it was about learning to touch my toes. Getting started was hard because there were always excuses and my toes seemed really, really far away. Once I started practicing on a regular basis and realized that yoga was more than a stretch class, I began to feel better and see changes all around me. My yoga practice has shown me how to approach my life with eyes wide open, allowing me to achieve a sense of ease and acceptance I never thought possible. Choosing to take this path has changed my life completely. Naturally, I wanted to share that path with friends, family and anyone willing to give it a try.

In 2012, I received my certification to teach at Inner Power Yoga in Woodland Hills. Through the years, I have completed Yoga Maze’s on-line anatomy class, attended Larry Payne’s ‘Prime of Life Yoga’ certification course, and also learned to teach children through Calming Kids Yoga in Boulder CO. This fall I will become certified to teach Yin Yoga through Evolation Yoga in Santa Barbara. My inspirational teachers and their legacies include Gary Kraftsow, Jason Crandall and locally Stefan Storace at Garden of Yoga in Woodland Hills.  Continuing education is important to me, and required through Yoga Alliance to maintain a qualified membership. I love to continue to learn; building on my teaching and personal practice.

In 2015, after teaching locally for a time, I opened my own home studio. My favorite part of this yogic journey has been the creation of a group of like-minded individuals that show up every Tuesday and Thursday and join me on this path. I am grateful to every person that has walked through the door just once, or year after year. Touching my toes is rewarding, but touching the lives of others through yoga has been even more meaningful.
